Average Hops To Network is a centrality metric that shows how well a node is connected. LnRouter calculates the distance from the node to all other nodes in the network with 5'000'000+ sat capacity and takes the average from that.
The more channels to diverse peers the node has, the lower the metric. The lower the amount of hops for a payment needed the faster the payment will complete.
Simple vs. Liquidity Adjusted Hops
LnRouter calculates centrality on two different graphs.
Simple Hops is calculated on the regular Lightning gossip graph. It doesn’t take any channel balances into account. This metric is updated continuously.
Liquidity Adjusted Hops is calculated on the gossip graph with approximated channel liquidities. It gives a more accurate picture of how well the node is connected. This metric is updated with every Liquidity Scan.
